On Saturday, the Indian women’s cricket team will take the field with a fresh look, wearing pink jerseys for the third and final ODI against Australia in New Chandigarh. The BCCI, together with SBI Life, has introduced this initiative to help raise awareness about breast cancer.

Ahead of the match, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur underlined the significance of the initiative in a video message shared by the BCCI. All-rounder Sneh Rana agreed with her captain, saying the new kit is about more than just changing the colour.

“Everyday we train for uncertainties, and this jersey is a reminder for you to be prepared. Let’s make breast self-examination a monthly routine and take a stand against breast cancer,” captain Harmanpreet said in the video message.

Indian Women’s Cricket Team Wears Pink Jerseys to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

Indian cricket teams have often used their uniforms to support meaningful causes. For example, in 2016, the men’s team wore jerseys with their mothers’ names during an ODI against New Zealand. Later, in 2019, they wore camouflage caps to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Pulwama attack. As for the present series, it is evenly poised at 1-1.

Australia chased down 281 comfortably in the opening ODI before India bounced back with a clinical win in the second game thanks to Smriti Mandhana’s sparkling century and a strong bowling effort. Now, Saturday’s clash is the final dress rehearsal for India before the showdown ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 begins.
