IND W vs AUS W 2nd ODI Highlights; Smriti Mandhana’s 117 Powers India Women to 102-Run Victory Over Australia

IND W vs AUS W 2nd ODI Highlights; Smriti Mandhana’s 117 Powers India Women to 102-Run Victory Over AustraliaSmriti Mandhana’s brilliant century and India’s strong bowling helped India Women crush Australia Women by 102 runs in the second ODI at Mullanpur Stadium, New Chandigarh, on Wednesday, September 17. With this win, India tied the three-match series 1-1 setting up an exciting final match in Delhi on Sunday.

Asked to bat first on another good batting day in New Chandigarh, India got off to a flying start scoring 64 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket. Smriti Mandhana was the star scoring freely, while Pratika Rawal couldn’t make the most of her start and got out after their 70-run opening partnership. Harleen Deol came in next but had a tough time and was eventually run out.

In great form, Mandhana kept India’s innings moving with regular boundaries. Harmanpreet Kaur, however, got out early after hitting just a couple of shots before the halfway mark. Even though India was scoring well and aiming for 300+, wickets kept falling at the other end, leaving Mandhana to hold the innings together. She reached her 12th ODI hundred off just 77 balls making it the second-fastest hundred for India in Women’s ODIs.

Australia was looking for a big wicket and Tahlia McGrath delivered by getting Mandhana out for 117. After that, India found it hard to build big partnerships, but important knocks from Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh and Sneh Rana helped the team reach 292. On the bowling side, Darcie Brown took three wickets, while Ashleigh Gardner bowled tightly and picked up two key wickets to keep India under 300.

Kranti Goud and Renuka Thakur Put Australia on Back Foot

Chasing 293, Australia got off to a shaky start as India’s new-ball pair, Kranti Goud and Renuka Thakur, reduced them to 25 for 2 in the first 10 overs. Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney struggled to get going with Sneh Rana dismissing Mooney, unlike her strong performance in the previous game. Australia’s middle order couldn’t control the scoring as India’s bowlers kept taking wickets and keeping the run rate in check.

Needing 158 from the last 20 overs, Ashleigh Gardner and Tahlia McGrath tried to stabilize the innings, but Deepti Sharma struck twice to break their partnership. India then gained full momentum with Kranti Goud taking two quick wickets and contributing to a run-out, finishing off Australia for 190. India won by 102 runs marking Australia’s biggest defeat by runs in ODIs.
