IND vs SA 1st Test Day 1 Highlights: India Bowls Out South Africa for 159; Bumrah Stars with 5 Wickets
India ended Day 1 of the first Test against South Africa at 37/1 after bad light stopped play early. Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah bowled brilliantly to help India bowl out South Africa for just 159. Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for 12, but Washington Sundar (6*) and KL Rahul (13*) stayed at the crease, adding 19 runs together carefully over 78 balls. India still trails South Africa by 122 runs as they head into Day 2.
India’s fast bowler Bumrah was the star with a brilliant five-wicket haul, helping bowl out South Africa for just 159. He took important wickets including the openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickleton, as well as Ton de Zorzi, Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj, finishing with 5/27.
The rest of the wickets were shared by other Indian bowlers. Mohammed Siraj took 2/47, Kuldeep Yadav claimed 2/36 and Axar Patel got 1/21. South Africa had a disappointing batting performance, especially after winning the toss. Wiaan Mulder and Ton de Zorzi were their top scorers.
South Africa Struggles to Stabilize Amid Tight Bowling
Mohammed Siraj gave away 34 runs in his first six overs but kept working hard. In his 10th over, he took two quick wickets, removing Kyle Verreynne (16) and Marco Jansen (0) in just four balls. Verreynne, who had been dropped twice earlier, was out after trying to defend a delivery, while Jansen was beaten by a perfect length ball that swung back sharply to hit the stumps.
The second session began with Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah keeping up the pressure. Kuldeep troubled the South African batsmen with his drift, dip, and changes in length, making it hard for them to score. After early wickets of Temba Bavuma and the openers, Wiaan Mulder and Tony de Zorzi tried to steady the innings.
Mulder batted carefully for over 50 balls but lost concentration 15 minutes into the session and was trapped LBW by Kuldeep for missing a reverse sweep. Just before the Tea break, Axar Patel got Corbin Bosch (3) LBW, putting India in a strong position and giving them a chance to bat on the first day despite Shubman Gill being dismissed earlier.
