PCB Plans PSL Expansion: Two New Franchises Up for Auction in Six Cities
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning to expand the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and is offering six cities for new teams. They have invited people to bid for the chance to own a franchise for 10 years. PSL CEO Salman Naseer said the new teams will be sold through an auction and bidders can pick any city from the approved list. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has completed the valuation of all existing PSL teams and related commercial assets. After this, they sent renewal offers to the current team owners. The PCB has picked six possible cities Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, Faisalabad, Gilgit and Rawalpindi for two new teams. The final decision will be made through an open auction, where bidders can choose a city from this approved list.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has completed an independent valuation of all Pakistan Super League (PSL) teams and related commercial assets. After this process, renewal offer letters showing the new franchise fees for the next 10 years have been sent to all eligible PSL teams, asking them to share their decision within the given deadline.” the statement said.
Renewal Letters Sent with Updated 10-Year Financial Terms
EY MENA valued all six PSL teams Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans. Each team got a renewal offer with new financial terms for the next 10 years. The PCB has set a deadline for responses and arranged meetings to explain the valuations and answer any questions before teams make their decisions.
Following the assessment, the PCB sent renewal letters to all six existing PSL teams. The auditors suggested a significant increase in franchise fees, ranging from 75 to 150 percent. An official said the letters include the new annual fees for the next 10 years and teams have been asked to respond within the given deadline. Among the franchises, Multan Sultans is the most valuable with an annual fee of USD 6.35 million, while the others fall between USD 2.6 million and 1.3 million.
The PCB also discussed various aspects of the league’s future, but no final decision was made about the schedule for the 11th edition of the PSL. The next season is expected to once again run during the Indian Premier League window, between March and May next year.
