IND vs ENG: Josh Tongue Injured in India A vs England Lions Match, Uncertain for 1st Test
Injuries continue to trouble the England cricket team, with reports suggesting another fast bowler may have been hurt. Five key bowlers are already sidelined with injuries and are unlikely to feature in the upcoming five-Test series against India. The series is scheduled to begin on June 20, with Headingley in Leeds hosting the opening match. Josh Tongue had to leave the field early after bowling just four overs in the India A vs England Lions 2nd unofficial Test. It happened in the second part of the game — he gave away 27 runs and then had to walk off because of pain. ESPNcricinfo says they don’t know yet how serious his injury is. This is more worrying because Tongue is part of England’s main team for the upcoming series against India.
England’s main fast bowler, Mark Wood, will be out for about four months because of a knee ligament injury. Gus Atkinson also won’t play in the first Test against India after hurting his hamstring. Olly Stone got a knee injury before the season started and Jofra Archer is missing the first Test as he’s recovering from a thumb injury. Jamie Overton broke a finger during the series against the West Indies. Right now, only Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse and Ben Stokes are ready to bowl in the first Test against India. It’s still not clear if Josh Tongue will be fully fit in time for the match.
