ICC Test Rankings: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Face Big Drops in Batting List

The two biggest stars of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have witnessed massive drops in the ICC Test Rankings. The update on December 11 showed that Kohli slid from No.14 to No.20 following a pathetic display in the pink-ball Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in which he could manage scores of only 7 and 11 in Adelaide. This was after a good performance in Perth, where he had marked his return to form with his 30th Test century.
Rohit Sharma, who had slipped to No.6 for the second Test against Australia, also failed to make an impact with the bat, scoring only 9 runs across both innings. As a result, the Indian captain slid 5 places to No.31 in the rankings.
Yashasvi Jaiswal remains India's best-ranked batter while holding the No. 4 position. He survived a golden duck in the first innings and scored 24 at Adelaide in the second, and Rishabh Pant, India's second best-ranked batter, slipped 3 places to No. 9 after the loss at Adelaide.
Indian batters in the Top 35 of ICC Rankings
- Yashasvi Jaiswal (No.4)
- Rishabh Pant (No.9)
- Shubman Gill (No.17)
- Virat Kohli (No.20)
- Rohit Sharma (No.31)
Jasprit Bumrah retained his position at the top in the latest ICC Test Rankings following his 4-wicket haul in Adelaide. Bumrah had regained the No.1 spot after his performance in Perth.
There was one change in the top 5 rankings of bowlers and that was R Ashwin's replacement by Pat Cummins at No.4 spot as he destroyed the Indian batting line-up during the Adelaide Test's 2nd innings. Cummins had taken a 5-wicket haul while Ashwin had collected just one wicket in the entire two innings.
The team rankings remained unchanged, while Australia topped the charts with 124 rating points. India held the second spot with 111 points, and South Africa, winning a series 2-0 over Sri Lanka, moved to the third position with 109 points, boosting their chances for the World Test Championship final.
The most notable change in the batting rankings was Harry Brook reaching the top, replacing his teammate Joe Root to occupy the No.1 position.
