ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Points Table: Updated Standings After India's Win Over New Zealand

ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Points Table: Updated Standings After India's Win Over New Zealand

ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Points Table: In the last group stage between New Zealand and India. The star mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy made history by becoming the third Indian cricketer to take a five-wicket haul in the Champions Trophy. He joined Ravindra Jadeja, who achieved this in 2017, and Mohammed Shami, who recently did it against Bangladesh in the same tournament.

At the beginning of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Varun wasn't India's first-choice spinner. The Indian team management preferred Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja for the opening two matches against Bangladesh and Pakistan.

But for the crucial game against New Zealand, the team management made a bold move by dropping the star pacer Harshit Rana and bringing in Varun. For this match, the Indian team went with four spinners, which turned out to be a game-changing decision.

India’s Batting Struggles but Finds Support

The New Zealand team won the toss and decided to field first. The Indian team had a tough time as they were struggling at 30/3. Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel built a much-needed 98-run partnership. Iyer played an excellent knock of 79 runs, while Axar contributed 42 runs. At the end, the star all-rounder Hardhik Pandya added 45 runs, helping India to post a total of 249.

New Zealand started their chase against India well, but their batters couldn't convert their starts into big scores. The star batter Knae Willliamson is the top scorer for New Zealand, scoring 81 runs. Axar Patel dismissed him at a crucial stage and changed the momentum back to India.

Varun Chakravarthy’s Magic Helps India Seal Victory

The mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy kept troubling the Kiwi batters with his excellent bowling. He took important wickets of the opener Will Young, the star all-rounders Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, and Matt Henry.
