ICC Champions Trophy 2025: 3 Players India Could Select Based on Vijay Hazare Trophy Performances
Pakistan and Dubai will host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which will run from February 19 to March 9. Eight teams are preparing for this major event. Six of these teams have already chosen their 15-member squads. India and Pakistan have not yet announced their teams.
The final team for India is supposed to be announced by January 18, 2025. Because the Vijay Hazare Trophy is approaching its semi-final moments, some excellent performances in this domestic 50-over contest are getting some new players noticed for picking time.
Karun Nair (Vidarbha)
6 matches, 664 runs, 664.0 average, 5 centuries
Karun Nair has turned his career around after moving to Vidarbha in 2023. The individual used to play for Karnataka but now, he's obtaining quite a bit of runs in all forms of the game and now Karun Nair is the captain for Vidarbha. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he's doing well and has obtained 664 runs in six innings, which means his average is a surprising 664.
And he hit five centuries and four were back-to-back. His amazing abilities have essentially been the main reason Vidarbha made it to the semi-finals, and now they're currently facing Maharashtra in the semi-finals.
Abhishek Sharma (Punjab)
8 innings, 467 runs, 58.38 average, 3 half-centuries, 1 century
Abhishek Sharma played very well in the IPL 2024, that performance made him join the Indian team for a tour in Zimbabwe. While there, he demonstrated by hitting a century in his second match. Before all that, Abhishek was the most explosive batter in domestic cricket. After that Zimbabwe tour, he kept his form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy too.
In that tournament, across eight innings, he scored 467 runs with an average of 58.38, knocking out three fifties and a century.
India needs a batter who can also help with bowling during the intense heat in Dubai, and Abhishek appears like a great pick. He's not only good with the bat but he's also a left-arm spinner, picking up nine wickets so far in the tournament
Varun Chakaravarthy (Tamil Nadu)
6 innings, 18 wickets, 12.72 average, 2 five-wicket hauls
Ever since the IPL 2024, Varun Chakaravarthy has been very impressive. His excellent performance for Kolkata Knight Riders helped him get back on India's T20I team after a three-year break. Chakaravarthy has been doing very well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy too, taking 18 wickets in just six games. Chakaravarthy averaged 12.72 and even got two five wicket-hauls.
Varun might step up as India's mystery spinner in the Champions Trophy because Kuldeep Yadav might not play, due to his injury.
