Hunain, Farhan highlight the PSL Emerging Team of the Tournament

Hunain, Farhan highlight the PSL Emerging Team of the TournamentPakistan Super League (PSL) has revealed its Emerging Team of the Tournament featuring 12 youngsters from eight teams. The team includes two players each from champions Peshawar Zalmi, runners-up Hyderabad Kingsmen, Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans, as well as one entry from each of the remaining teams, Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings, and Rawalpindiz.

Top Order Performers

Islamabad’s Sameer Minhas, who is the only player from the Emerging category to score more than 300 runs this season, has been included in the side as an opener alongside Quetta’s Shamyl Hussain. Shamyl scored three fifties in nine games and ended the season with a total of 215 runs.

Hyderabad’s Maaz Sadaqat, who hit 260 runs with a 176 strike rate, helped the side maximise their powerplays at the top. He has been included at No. 3 in the side, with Karachi’s Saad Baig coming in at No. 4. Saad, who took the gloves for Karachi, scored 143 runs in six games, including a 53 off 37 balls against Hyderabad, after which he was retired out.

Middle Order and All-Round Contributions

Peshawar Zalmi’s middle-order batter Farhan Yousaf has also made it to the team. Farhan only batted in seven out of 11 innings and was adept at the quick-scoring role he was entrusted with. He maintained a strike rate of 152 with a tally of 128, including an unbeaten 58 to take his side home over Karachi Kings.

Saad Masood’s late-order cameos, as well as his wicket-taking ability, have also granted him a place on the team as Rawalpindiz’s only player. Saad’s legbreaks earned him six wickets in as many games while he scored with a strike rate of 177.

Pace Attack Dominance

Hyderabad’s Hunain Shah, Peshawar’s Ali Raza, Multan’s Mohammad Ismail, and Lahore’s Ubaid Shah form the four-man pace attack. All four young pacers had a breakout season for their respective sides. Ali Raza fared well for Zalmi after their Bangladesh pace duo, Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam, left for national duty.

Raza also bagged a hat-trick, becoming the second player to do so this season. Before him, Lahore’s Ubaid Shah, who grabbed eight wickets in total and is also part of the team, achieved the same feat.

Hunain Shah ended with 17 wickets next to his name and built a reputation for himself as a death-bowling specialist with his immaculate yorkers. He defended six runs in the last over against Islamabad United in Eliminator 2.

Spin Department

Multan Sultans’ Momin Qamar is the only specialist spinner on the team. He took four wickets in the four games he played, including a 3/24 against Islamabad United.
