Haris Rauf not expected to be a part of Pakistan’s World Cup squad
Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf has wrapped up an exceptional Big Bash League (BBL) season. Playing for the Melbourne Stars, the team he has represented since his league debut, Rauf finished as the leading wicket-taker this season for which he was featured in the BBL Team of the Tournament.
Haris likely to be left out of the World Cup
In an edition where no other Pakistani delivered decent performances, the right-armer was a roaring success.
However, his BBL performances could not help him win the selectors' favour as he is understood not to be in their plans for the T20 World Cup. The strongest indication of his potential exclusion is that he is not a part of Pakistan’s T20 squad for the Australia series, announced earlier today.
The squad for the three-game series, set to be played to top off Pakistan’s World Cup preparations, includes Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi, both of whom haven’t regularly been a part of the T20 side since the previous World Cup.
However, their inclusion suggests that they, unlike Haris, remain in the plans to fly to Sri Lanka, where Pakistan will play their World Cup games.
Haris’ spell that gave away the Asia Cup
Haris Rauf has not played any T20I game since his difficult outing in the 2025 Asia Cup final against India. Rauf, who was tasked with bowling the death overs, went for 26 runs in 10 balls to undo Pakistan’s efforts of pinning down India for a good part of the game.

FAQs
Haris Rauf has not played any T20I game since his torrid run in the 2025 Asia Cup final against India, where he leaked 50 runs in 3.4 overs, effectively pushing Pakistan to defeat. This is deemed one of the bigger reasons behind the snub.
