Green makes chucking gesture after being dismissed by Usman Tariq

Another day, another time, Usman Tariq found himself being accused of chucking. In the second T20I against Australia, Cameron Green was seen gesturing that Usman was throwing the ball.

Usman accused of throwing the ball

Green, who lost his wicket to the mystery spinner, was unhappy on his way out and reopened a debate that is all too familiar for Usman. In the ILT20 a few weeks ago, MI Emirates batter Tom Banton, upon his dismissal by him, also signalled that he had thrown the ball.

Usman later defended his bowling action, saying the way he delivers the ball confuses spectators, though his action is perfectly valid.

“There are two corners on my [elbow] which make it hard for me to straighten,” he said ahead of the final of the ILT20.

“That creates confusion for the spectators. I have given two tests at labs in Pakistan. My action was cleared. As you can see from history, when any spinner had allegations [of chucking] against them, they went to the lab. They tried to change their action and develop the right degrees.”

He has already undergone two tests to check the legitimacy of his bowling action, and as per his account, each time he was cleared without being asked to make changes.

“When I went for the test, within one week, it was cleared. I didn’t get the answer that you have to change your action or improve the degrees. I was confident about my action because I know that I am not throwing.”

Usman grabs a couple

The off-spinner took two wickets in 2.4 overs, dismissing Matthew Kuhnemann to put an end to Australia’s misery and hand them a 90-run defeat.
