A short clip doing the rounds on social media shows Gambhir telling Rohit, “Rohit, sabko lag rha tha ki aaj farewell match thha, ek photo to lagaa do.” The video, which seems to have been recorded by a fan at the team’s hotel in Australia, went viral after the second ODI in Adelaide.

Rohit came back to the Indian team after seven months and struggled in the first match at Perth, scoring only 8 runs. But in Adelaide, he looked much better, scoring a steady 73. Along with Shreyas Iyer, who made 61, Rohit helped India reach 264 for 9.

Though Australia went on to chase down the total and seal the series, the knock would give massive relief to Rohit, who has been under pressure to score runs alongside Virat Kohli.

Rohit’s knock also marked a significant milestone, making him the first Indian batter to reach 1,000 ODI runs against Australia on their home soil. With the 2027 ODI World Cup set as the target set for the 38-year-old, every good performance acts as a statement from Rohit Sharma for his already proven calibre at the highest stage.
