ENG vs IND 3rd Test at Lord’s: Weather, Pitch, and What to Expect

After the first two Test matches in Leeds and Edgbaston, the cricketing world now turns its attention to Lord’s, where England and India are set to clash in the third Test, beginning on Thursday, July 10. This will mark the 20th encounter between these two cricketing giants at this iconic venue.
ENG vs IND 3rd Test at Lord’s: Weather, Pitch, and What to Expect

Historically, England has dominated at Lord’s, securing victory in 12 of the 19 previous meetings. India, however, has shown resilience, claiming three wins overall, with two of those victories coming in the last five encounters. This recent trend suggests that India may be finding its footing at this venue.

When it comes to the weather, cricket fans can expect a largely sunny affair over the next five days. The temperature is projected to hover around the 30˚C mark, with minimal chances of rain. However, the fifth day of the match may see a slight increase in cloud cover and a higher likelihood of precipitation, reminiscent of the conditions at Edgbaston during the second Test.

Turning to the pitch report, Lord’s has historically favored the batsmen in the first innings, with an average score of 333 runs in the last 39 Test matches. However, the fourth innings have proven to be more challenging, with an average score of just 155 runs. Teams batting first have emerged victorious in 21 of the 39 games played here. The toss will undoubtedly play a crucial role in this match, as it often does at this venue. Pacers have been particularly effective at Lord’s, claiming 74% of the wickets in the last 10 matches.

The series currently stands at a fascinatingly balanced 1-1. England secured a thrilling victory in the first Test, chasing down a target of 371 runs in the fourth innings, the second-highest successful chase in their Test cricket history. India, on the other hand, became the first country to lose a Test match despite having five batters score a century. The second Test, played at Edgbaston, saw India’s Shubman Gill lead the charge with a double-century and a century in each innings. Despite the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, India’s bowlers, particularly Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, delivered outstanding performances, bundling out England for 271 runs and securing a 336-run victory.

Looking ahead to the third Test, England’s bowling lineup has been bolstered by the return of Jofra Archer. This will be Archer’s first Test match in over four years, and if he can recapture the form he displayed at his debut, it could pose a significant challenge for India’s batting lineup. England’s batting performance has been somewhat inconsistent, excelling in the first Test but faltering in the second. If India’s bowlers can replicate their outstanding performance from the second Test, they may well have the upper hand in this crucial encounter.
