Cummins targets IPL 2025 comeback to prepare for the WTC final against South Africa
Good news for Sunrisers Hyderabad, their captain Pat Cummins hoping to make a return in IPL 2025. The all-rounder is out of the ICC Champions Trophy due to an ankle injury. He is now focused on returning to action in the IPL, which begins on March 23, and sees it as a perfect opportunity to prepare for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
Pat Cummins has shared that he will begin bowling next week to get ready for IPL 2025. He mentioned that playing in the IPL will be a good way to prepare for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Australia secured their place in the WTC final for the second time in a row after defeating India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“That’s the aim. It’s four overs in T20s. So physically it’s quite a nice build up for the World Test Championship final, and then the Test matches after that. That’s the aim at this stage – start bowling over the next week or so, building up, and should be right for IPL,” Cummins said.
“It’s probably just making sure you’re still bowling quite a few balls (during the IPL). The good thing about a T20 tournament is the intensity is really high, so that obviously helps quite a bit,” he added.
Australia will take on England in their opening match of the Champions Trophy on Friday. Steve Smith will lead the team, but they will be without several key players, including Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh, and Marcus Stoinis. Missing so many top players will make it a tough task for the reigning ODI World Cup champions to win the tournament.
SRH will play their first match of IPL 2025 against RR on March 23. Pat Cummins, who was retained by the team, will continue as the captain.
