Chinnaswamy Stadium to Host Six Matches of KSCA’s K Thimmappiah Memorial Trophy

Chinnaswamy Stadium to Host Six Matches of KSCA’s K Thimmappiah Memorial TrophyIt’s been over two months since the tragic stampede on June 4, and now Chinnaswamy Stadium is slowly getting ready to welcome cricket again. The home ground of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has gone through a tough time after 11 people sadly lost their lives during the IPL 2025 victory celebrations. The stadium also missed out on hosting Women’s World Cup matches and the Maharaja Trophy. But now, the KSCA is working step by step to bring back the game and restore normalcy at this historic venue.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium will host six matches of the K Thimmappiah Memorial Trophy. The tournament began on Thursday in Mysore, but from September 26, the stadium will stage one semi-final and the final. However, fans won’t be allowed inside to watch the games live.

Chinnaswamy Stadium Under the Spotlight

The K Thimmappiаh Memorial Trophy is Karnataka’s top red-ball cricket tournament, bringing together 16 teams from across the country. Big sides like Mumbai, Gujarat, Baroda and Vidarbha are part of this year’s edition, with well-known players such as Prasidh Krishna, Ajinkyа Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer аdding star value to the competition. For fаns, it’s a reminder of how important this event is in shaping the future of domestic cricket.

For the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), this tournament also carries a much deeper meaning. After the tragic stampede, Chinnaswamy Stadium has been under heavy scrutiny, with enquiries involving the KSCA, the state government аnd the police. A state-appointed committee even declared the ground unfit for hosting big crowds, leaving one of India’s most famous cricket venues in a difficult spot. Hosting these matches is a cаutious step towards winning back trust and rebuilding the stadium’s reputation.

The impact of the crisis has already been felt. Bengaluru lost its share of the Women’s World Cup 2025 games, including a semi-final to Navi Mumbai. The KSCA Maharaja Trophy also had to be shifted to Mysore at the last minute. Now, the K Thimmappiah Trophy could act as a small but significant test for Chinnaswamy. With the IPL 2026 and the T20 World Cup on the horizon, the stadium’s future as a global cricketing hub depends on how well it manages this comeback.
