Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede: 11 Dead, 47 Injured as 2–3 Lakh Fans Overcrowd RCB Victory Parade
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory parade outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium turned tragic when a stampede broke out leading to the deaths of more than 11 people. A huge crowd had gathered to see Rajat Patidar and the team celebrate with the IPL trophy, but poor event management caused chaos. Sadly, the stampede not only caused multiple fatalities but also left many others injured.
The number of people injured and killed is expected to rise. What was meant to be a joyful celebration for Bengaluru’s fans, who came out to cheer RCB’s first IPL win sadly turned into a tragic event. After RCB’s victory over Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium, a victory parade was organized to mark the team’s historic win. However, poor planning caused the situation to spiral out of control, resulting in many lives lost and raising serious concerns about whether such large celebrations should be held again.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar apologized for the tragedy, saying the crowd became 'uncontrollable.' "I apologize for the overcrowding," he added. Earlier, Home Minister Parameshwara Rao announced that RCB’s victory parade had been canceled, with the decision coming just hours before the event was scheduled to start.
This happened because of logistical and security challenges and the Bengaluru police also asked people to avoid the roads leading to the stadium between 3 PM and 8 PM due to expected heavy traffic. Instead, the team will take part in a felicitation ceremony inside the M. Chinnaswamy stadium from 5 PM to 6 PM.

BCCI Secretary Acknowledges Planning Gaps in RCB Victory Event
Devajit Saikia from the BCCI said the organizers should have planned better since many fans were expected after RCB’s first IPL win. He also said the BCCI didn’t organize the celebration. After the sad incident, he promised the BCCI will make rules to keep future events safe. He talked about the national team’s recent parade in Mumbai as a good example of how to plan these celebrations well.
"It's very unfortunate what has happened. I think there were some lapses. The BCCI has no role in it. But it's a lesson to learn. We will look into forming new rules for such victory celebrations going forward," Saikia said.
"This can happen in any state and the ruling party should not be blamed for it. It should not be politicised. If this happens in a BJP-ruled state, we should not blame them. The crowd was huge, I spoke to the franchise, they also did not think that such a huge crowd would come and this incident happened suddenly. Efforts are being made to provide maximum help to the families of the deceased." BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said.

The celebration at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was organized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association. Although only pass holders were allowed inside, thousands of fans gathered outside hoping to catch a glimpse of the IPL trophy and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team as they celebrated their first-ever title win.
Before the tragic incident, big celebrations were planned all over Bengaluru to mark RCB’s historic IPL win, which they achieved by beating Punjab in an exciting final in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. On Wednesday afternoon, Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar personally welcomed the RCB players at the airport. Later, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah honored the whole team, including captain Rajat Patidar and former captain Virat Kohli, at the Vidhana Soudha. After that, the team went to M.
