
Champions Trophy 2025: India Defeated Australia In the Semi-Finals
In the first semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India defeated Australia by 4 wickets, avenging their defeat in the ICC World Cup 2023 final. This article will discuss the highlights of the first semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025 between India and Australia.
Australia’s Batting
After winning the toss, Australia decided to bat first, Travis Head and Cooper Connolly opened the innings for Australia, the innings just got started and after facing nine balls Cannolly went back for a duck on Mohd Shami’s ball. Head tried to stabilise the innings scoring 39 runs off 35 balls before being dismissed in the 9th over by Varun Chakravarthy.
After the openers went back to pavilion, Marnus Labuschange and Steve Smith tried to stabilise Australia’s innings. Later both the players got dismissed at their respective scores of 29 and 73, respectively.
Despite Smith's and Labuschange efforts, other batters didn't scored runs except for Alex Carey, who scored 61 off 57 balls. Due the Lower order collapse, Australia was eventually all out for 264.
India’s Batting
India after getting a relatively small target of 265 runs, began with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill at the crease. However, India lost its first wicket when Ben Dwarhuis dismissed Shubman Gill after scoring just eight runs. The team then lost the captain Rohit Sharma's wicket in the 8th over, and now the score was 43/2. The situation was delicate, given the memories of the last World Cup final collapse, India was needed to play cautiously.
Following this setback, Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli led India’s chase, forming a 90-run partnership. With significant contributions from Iyer and Axar Patel later, the team moved closer to the target.
In the final 15 overs, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul propelled India’s chase with their scores of 84 and 42 respectively, respectively. The match got interesting after Kohli's and Pandya's dismissal in the last few overs, but India completed the chase in the 49th over with a winning six from KL Rahul
