BCCI set to receive Asia Cup trophy in 48 hours; if not, Mohsin Naqvi may face ICC action

[ Poll: 3yQRQGLK ]

A major update has emerged regarding the Asia Cup 2025 winner's trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hopes the trophy will arrive at its Mumbai headquarters within the next day or two. However, if the deadlock continues, the Indian board will raise the issue with the ICC (International Cricket Council) on November 4th.

India won the Asia Cup by defeating arch-rival Pakistan by five wickets in the final played in Dubai. However, Team India refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan's Home Minister and ACC (Asian Cricket Council) and PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board).

Asia Cup trophy to reach India in two days; BCCI to raise issue against Mohsin Naqvi at ICC if delayed

During the Asia Cup, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake hands with Pakistani captain Salman Agha due to the strained relations between the two countries. The Indian team also refrained from shaking hands with Pakistani players during three Asia Cup matches. Although Naqvi had already stated that the trophy could be presented to India, it would be presented by him only. Even after a month of the victory, the BCCI is still awaiting the official handover of the trophy. Devajit Saikia provided an update on the Asia Cup Trophy.

BCCI Joint Secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI, "Yes, we are a little disappointed that even after a month, we have not been presented with the trophy. We wrote to the ACC President about 10 days ago, but there has been no change in his stance. He is still holding the trophy, but we hope it will reach the BCCI's Mumbai office in the next day or two."

Saikia said that if the trophy is not presented soon, the BCCI will raise the matter at the ICC quarterly meeting starting in Dubai on November 4. The trophy presentation in Dubai was also delayed by more than an hour. The trophy was later removed from the field without any explanation, leaving the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team to celebrate their historic victory without the trophy, a first in cricket history.

While the BCCI has officially demanded the return of the trophy, reports indicate that Naqvi remains adamant that Indian players personally receive it at a future event. Saikia said, "On behalf of the BCCI, we are fully prepared to resolve this issue. I can assure the countrymen that the trophy will definitely return to India, but the timing is not fixed. One day, it will definitely come. We have won all the matches against Pakistan and become champions. Everything is on record. Only the trophy is missing. I hope a prudent decision will be made."
