BCCI Restricts Family Time on Tours After Coach Gautam Gambhir Expresses Frustration: Reports

BCCI Restricts Family Time on Tours After Coach Gautam Gambhir Expresses Frustration: ReportsThe people who make decisions for cricket in India, called BCCI said players will now spend less time with their families when they travel to play games in other countries. India didn’t win the games against New Zealand and Australia, and this happened when Rohit Sharma was the captain of the team and Gautam Gambhir was the Head Coach. It seems like the rule about less family time was Head Coach Gambhir’s idea.

A source said Gambhir wants to ensure the Indian team follows the rules. He believes that if player's families visit less, the team will behave better during tours. For tours longer than 45 days, families can stay for two weeks, but for shorter tours, they can only stay for one week.

At a meeting, Gambhir talked about losing the Border-Gavaskar series and said it was because the Indian team didn’t follow rules in the dressing room. He thinks breaking rules is why the BCCI wants to bring back the old rules from before COVID, where player's families could only stay with them for two weeks. Sources say both Gautam Gambhir and the players agree with this idea.

BCCI's Proposed Guidelines for Players and Tours

Rule Details
Family Stay for 45+ Day Tournament Families can stay with players for only 14 days.
Family Stay for Shorter Tours Family stay duration may be reduced to 7 days.
Wives' Stay Wives cannot stay with players for the entire tournament.
Total Family Stay Duration Families can stay for a maximum of 2 weeks.
Traveling on a Team Bus All players must travel on the team bus.
Gautam Gambhir's Personal Manager His manager cannot sit in the VIP box or travel on the team bus; must stay in a different hotel.
Excess Luggage Charges If players' luggage exceeds 150 kg, the BCCI will not cover the extra charges, and players will have to pay.

During their tour to Australia, some older and younger cricket players went out for dinner. A few people mentioned the group only had dinner together once during the tour from November 2024 to January 2025. Gambhir believes the players and team management need to be stricter with the younger players.

A meeting between Gautam Gambhir and a BCCI official might take place during the first T20I against England in Kolkata. This discussion comes amidst the ongoing controversies surrounding the team.
