Basit Ali Critiques Sufiyan Muqeem's Unsportsmanlike Conduct After Clash with Abhishek Sharma
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has sharply criticized Sufiyan Muqeem for his unsportsmanlike behavior following a confrontation with India A’s Abhishek Sharma during the ACC Men's T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 match.
India A won the toss and launched an aggressive innings, with openers Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh setting a solid foundation. Abhishek showcased his skills, scoring 35 runs off just 22 balls with a strike rate of around 160, featuring five fours and two sixes. Together with Prabhsimran Singh, who added 36 runs, they forged a partnership of 68 runs.
However, the match took a turn when Muqeem dismissed Sharma. The left-handed batsman, trying to clear the boundary for a six, was caught out. In a display of poor sportsmanship, Muqeem pointed towards the pavilion, directing Sharma to leave the field. This provoked a reaction from Sharma, who paused on his way back to the dugout to exchange words with Muqeem.
Fortunately, umpires and teammate Prabhsimran Singh intervened to diffuse the situation. Both teams managed to calm their players before tensions escalated further.
