Bangladesh Appoints Litton Das Full-Time T20I Captain, Announces 16-Member Squad for UAE and Pakistan Series

Bangladesh Appoints Litton Das Full-Time T20I Captain, Announces 16-Member Squad for UAE and Pakistan SeriesThe Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named Litton Das as their new T20I captain, giving him charge of the team until the 2026 T20 World Cup and they’ve also named a 16‑player squad for the upcoming T20I series against the UAE and Pakistan.

Litton Das has earned the full-time T20I captain’s role after impressing as a stand-in skipper on the West Indies tour, where Bangladesh notched a clean sweep. The BCB’s 16-player squad for the upcoming T20Is against the UAE and Pakistan also sees Najmul Hossain Shanto and MD Tawhid Hridoy back in the mix, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Nasum Ahmed, and Ripon Mondol miss out this time.

Bangladesh will use the three-week gap between their Zimbabwe and Pakistan series to play a preparatory T20I against the UAE. This will be Litton Das’s first series as full-time captain, with Shak Mahedi Hasan stepping in as his vice-captain. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who was expected to serve as deputy, isn’t part of the current squad.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, who used to captain Bangladesh in all formats, gave up T20I leadership in January and then missed the West Indies tour through injury. That paved the way for Litton to take charge, and under his calm, tactical leadership the Tigers swept the WI series 3–0. Although Litton is still nursing a finger injury, the team is hopeful he’ll be fit and ready to lead them as they ramp up preparations for next year’s T20 World Cup.
