Babar Azam resumes nets as he recovers from left knee injury

Babar Azam was seen batting in the nets in a post shared by Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) social media handle. The post confirms several reports that the right-handed batter is recovering from his left knee injury. Earlier, Babar was ruled out of the first Test against Bangladesh after he felt discomfort in his knee during training.

Babar’s injury

This was the first time since 2020 that Babar was sidelined due to an injury. Sources previously revealed the injury was not severe, and the right-handed batter could rejoin the squad for the second Test match.

Reportedly, Babar felt intense pain in his left knee and informed the management. The management then had him undergo MRI scans and rest as a precaution until May 12. Babar has resumed training as he recovers from the injury. The post also showed Babar running between the wickets without any unease.

Some sources also claim that Babar did not ask to be rested; instead, it was entirely the management’s decision to bench him.

Debutants shine in Mirpur Test

In his absence, Pakistan had to reshuffle their top batting order as they handed debut caps to Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal to bat at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively. Both debutants fared well as Azan became the fourteenth Pakistan player to notch up a century on his Test debut, while Abdullah scored 60 off 120 balls while helping the side recover from two quick wickets.
