Team India won their last group match against Oman by 21 runs, but there was a scare. Axar Patel got hurt and had to leave the field after falling while trying to catch the ball. This puts his playing in the big Super Four match against Pakistan in doubt. Coach T Dilip said Axar’s head hit the ground when he fell. He was running from mid-off to catch a ball from Hammad Mirza’s bat off Shivam Dube’s ball.
The incident happened in the 15th over of Oman’s chase, bowled by Shivam Dube. Axar misjudged a high ball, juggled it twice and hit his head on the ground while trying to catch it. Normally a safe fielder, Axar seemed a bit awkward and couldn’t hold onto the ball under that pressure. This raised concerns about whether he would be able to play in India’s most important match of the tournament, as he didn’t return to the field after that. He had only bowled one over, which added to the uncertainty, even though he had made a big impact with the bat, scoring a quick 26 off 13 balls.
Axar Patel Injury Update: Looks Fine After Match Against Oman
Patel did reach the ball but couldn’t complete the catch, and he landed awkwardly on his head, showing signs of discomfort. After India’s 21-run win, fielding coach T Dilip gave an update saying that Patel looked fine after the match and there was no serious worry about his injury
“Just now I've seen Axar, he looks fine now at this point of time. That's what I can say about it,” said T Dilip in the post-match press conference.
The India fielding coach was asked about the quick turnaround for India’s next match against Pakistan, scheduled just a day after their last game on September 21. He said there’s no extra hype around it and that the team treats every match the same. He added that the players are ready to face their arch-rivals again.
“About the Pakistan game, everyone is geared up. We treat every game the same and we know the schedule. So every match is just another match, and we are ready for it,” he said. After beating Oman, India topped Group A, winning all three of their matches against UAE, Pakistan, and Oman. The tournament now moves to the Super 4 stage, where India will face Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
