ASIA CUP 2025: 5 Players Who May Play Their Final Asia Cup

ASIA CUP 2025: 5 Players Who May Play Their Final Asia Cup

[ Poll: BZKQgnyx ]

The 2025 Asia Cup could be the last tournament for some senior players. They have played for their teams for more than ten years and given fans many unforgettable moments with both bat and ball.

The list has a few big names from full-member teams like India and Pakistan, along with three senior players from associate sides like Oman and Hong Kong.

5 Players Who May Play Their Final Asia Cup

Fakhar Zaman (Pakistan)

Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman is all set to play in his fourth, and possibly last Asia Cup in 2025. The left-hander has already been part of three editions of the tournament, with a mix of ups and downs. In 2018, he managed only 56 runs in five games, but in 2022 he bounced back with 96 runs in six matches, including a solid 53.

In the 2023 edition, he scored 65 runs across four innings. The southpaw is known for his attacking brand of cricket, and notably a match-winning century in the 2017 Champions Trophy final against India.

Over the years, he has produced several iconic knocks, including a double century in ODIs and game-changing innings in World Cups. Meanwhile, the cricketer is already 35 and with the next Asia Cup scheduled for 2027, there is a chance he might not be in the scheme of things.

Suryakumar Yadav (India)

The Indian T20 captain is a player who can make anything happen with the bat. But there’s a twist. The next Asia Cup in 2027 will be played in the ODI format, and SKY, as fans lovingly call him, hasn’t found the same rhythm in 50-over cricket.

Looking even further, by the time the 2029 tournament comes around, he’ll be 38. By then, it’s hard to see a young and hungry Indian side relying on someone of his age.

Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan)

Mohammad Nabi, the man who has carried Afghanistan cricket on his shoulders for nearly 20 years, might be playing his last Asia Cup in 2025. Ever since Afghanistan made their debut in the tournament in 2014, Nabi has been a constant presence.

He has even led the team twice, once in 2014 and again in 2022. Even now, in his late 40s, he continues to be a key figure in Afghanistan’s rise. Nabi has represented Afghanistan in over 300 international matches, becoming the first Afghan cricketer to play 100 ODIs and take 100 wickets in the format.

In the continental tournament, he has captained the team in four ODIs and five T20Is, winning one and two respectively. Collectively, in five editions, he has scored 351 runs and bagged 16 wickets.

Aamir Kaleem (Oman)

Oman’s 43-year-old all-rounder Aamir Kaleem may be playing his last Asia Cup. Born in Pakistan, he joined Oman cricket in 2012 and has been key as a left-arm spinner and handy batter. He once batted at No. 11 but later became an opener.

In 2024, he returned strongly and has stayed in the team since. Earlier this year, he hit his first international fifty, an unbeaten 72 against the USA. Kaleem has played over 40 T20Is and 15 ODIs and is still an important player for Oman.

Ehsan Khan (Hong Kong)

Ehsan Khan, Hong Kong’s experienced off-spinner, has been a key part of their bowling attack for more than ten years. Born on December 27, 1984, the 40-year-old has earned a name as a steady performer and a regular wicket-taker in both ODIs and T20Is.

His biggest impact has come in the shortest format, where he is Hong Kong’s leading wicket-taker with 128 scalps in 95 matches at an average of 16.54 and an economy of just 6.26. In his short One-Day Internationals career, he has claimed 29 wickets in 15 games. Khan, however, could play his last Asia Cup, and he will look to perform to the best of his capabilities.

Being one of the senior most members of the side, he will also look to provide leadership and mentorship to help his side take on the heavyweights in the ongoing marquee T20 event.
