2026 T20 World Cup: Can Sahibzada Farhan end as the tournament’s highest run-getter?
Pakistan crashed out of the 2026 T20 World Cup last Saturday when they could not overhaul New Zealand’s Net Run Rate (NRR).
Sahibzada still at top
However, what was probably the only bright spot for Pakistan, Sahibzada Farhan, is still shining a week after the end of his team’s campaign. With 383 runs, Farhan remains the tournament’s highest run-scorer, and if things go his way, he could end the tournament at the top spot as well.
Next on the list is Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett with 292 runs, but with his team having been eliminated even before Pakistan, the Pakistan batter’s record is not threatened by him.
Who can get past him?
The closest to Farhan’s top spot among the two surviving teams, India and New Zealand, is Finn Allen, who has 289 runs after an unbeaten knock in the semi-final pushed him to second place. He needs 95 runs in the final to dethrone the Pakistan opener.
His teammate Tim Seifert follows closely with 274 runs, and 109 runs in the final could see him move to the top.
Among the top ten run-scorers are also India’s Ishan Kishan (263 runs) and Suryakumar Yadav (242 runs), but both face a progressively difficult task to score big in a game as high-stakes as a World Cup final.
Farhan’s breakout season
Farhan became the first batter to hit two hundreds in a T20 World Cup, as well as score the most runs in one edition of the tournament. Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) nominated the Pakistan batter for the Player of the Tournament award.
If he gets dethroned in the final, it would rightly be a gargantuan task, no matter who does it.
