India Asia Cup 2025 Squad Announcement Live: Shubman Gill Named Vice-Captain

The BCCI announced India’s 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025 on Tuesday (August 19), with Suryakumar Yadav named captain and Shubman Gill appointed vice-captain.

Two notable omissions from the squad are Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer, while Jasprit Bumrah, whose workload had been under discussion during the England tour, has retained his place.

In addition to the main squad, the selectors named five standby players: Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained the decisions: “It’s very unfortunate for Yashasvi Jaiswal. With Abhishek (Sharma) doing well and also able to bowl, one of the two had to miss out. The same goes for Shreyas Iyer, it’s not his fault, but he has to wait for his chance.”

On Gill’s elevation as vice-captain, Agarkar said,“He has exceeded all our expectations.”

India Asia Cup 2025 Squad Announcement Live Update: Schedule

Team India will begin their Asia Cup 2025 journey against the UAE on September 10 in Dubai. The much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash is set for September 14, also in Dubai. India’s last group-stage match will be against Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.

After the group stage, the Super 4 round will start from September 20 to 26. The top two teams from each group will qualify for this stage. If India finishes first in Group A, all their Super 4 matches will be played in Dubai. If they finish second, one match will be in Abu Dhabi and the other two in Dubai.

The final of the Asia Cup 2025 will take place in Dubai on September 28.
