"Don’t Doubt Him": Kapil Dev Backs Rohit Sharma's Captaincy After Adelaide Loss

Kapil Dev, the legendary Indian cricketer, has come forward in support of Rohit Sharma. He urged those criticizing Sharma to take a step back. Kapil believes it’s unfair to judge Sharma’s captaincy based on just one bad game in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Jasprit Bumrah helped India win the first match in Perth with an impressive victory of 295 runs while Rohit was away, the team was beaten down with a poor show as it suffered a 10-wicket defeat at Adelaide under the leadership of Rohit.
After a disappointing show with the bat in India's home loss to New Zealand, Rohit Sharma came into the series, but his struggles continued. Mr. Sharma decided to make a change by batting at No. 6, giving the opening spots to KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Despite this adjustment, Rohit managed only 9 runs across both innings, falling cheaply each time. Against a very strong Australian team, India couldn't keep up. Australia, led by a brilliant century from Travis Head and an excellent performance with the pink ball by Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, secured a comfortable win.
"Let's not doubt Rohit Sharma's ability to bounce back. He doesn't have to prove himself. He has done this for many, many years, so let's not doubt somebody. I won't doubt him. I hope his form comes back, that's important," Kapil Dev said.
Rohit Sharma's been having a tough time lately, especially with his batting against fast bowlers. Sharma really showed this weakness during the series where India lost all three games to New Zealand right at home between October and November. And it's not helping that he's now joined Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni for a record they didn't want he's lost four Test matches in a row as captain. Kapil Dev, though, who knows a thing or two about winning since he led India to a World Cup victory, believes in Rohit.
"With one or two performances, if you doubt someone's captaincy, I mean, just six months back when he won the T20 World Cup, you wouldn't have asked me this question. Let it go, knowing his ability and talent, he will come back. They will come back strongly," Kapil added.
Kapil reminded everyone that not too long ago, under Rohit's lead, India won the T20 World Cup. Dev believes that Rohit can help the team during the tough times. In what you may think is a clear difference to his recent troubles, Kapil's backing Rohit to do very well. But then, Rohit's had a real tough time in individual performances too. Like in the Adelaide Test's first innings, he was dismissed for just 3 runs because he kept his feet still and became caught by Scott Boland's delivery.
In the second innings, during evening play, his playing didn't look confident at all: though he escaped harm once, when Mitchell Starc's potential LBW got canceled because of overstepping, Pat Cummins did not let that happen and got him out for just 6. And now, with the third Test against Australia happening in Brisbane starting December 14, Rohit's facing a vast amount of pressure to improve his performance. Already struggling, it's almost inevitably going to be a critical moment for him.
