Owned by Kalanithi Maran of the SUN Group, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was founded in 2012 following the termination of the Deccan Chargers. Making their IPL debut in 2013, the team immediately impressed by reaching the playoffs and finishing fourth.

The franchise reached its pinnacle in 2016, lifting its maiden IPL title by defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 8 runs. Batting first at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, SRH posted 208/7, fueled by skipper David Warner's 69 and Ben Cutting's explosive 39*. Despite Chris Gayle's 76, RCB fell short at 200/7. SRH remained a powerhouse, reaching the playoffs in the next four consecutive seasons and finishing as runners-up in 2018 after a loss to CSK.

After a lean period between 2021 and 2023, the appointment of Pat Cummins as captain in 2024 revitalized the "Orange Army." They reached the 2024 final but finished as runners-up to KKR. Building on that momentum, SRH remained a dominant force through 2025. In the 2026 season, despite an early injury to Cummins that saw Ishan Kishan step in as interim captain, the team's aggressive "ultra-SRH" batting style continued to redefine T20 benchmarks.

The 55,000-capacity Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium remains their formidable home fortress. Reflecting their recent resurgence and massive fan engagement, SRH's brand value soared to an estimated $105 million by early 2026.
