Yashasvi Jaiswal Set to Become India's Next Test Captain Amid Concerns Over Bumrah's Fitness and Gill's Form

Future Leadership in Indian Cricket: BCCI’s Plans for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman GillThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering the star Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for India’s Test captain role once the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma steps down from Test cricket. while the star batter Shubman Gill is seen as the potential leader for the ODI team.

Rohit Sharma is aging and he was inconsistent in Test cricket, the BCCI is looking for young players for leadership roles. Rohit's retirement from T20Is has allowed the star batter Suryakumar Yadav to step up as T20I captain for the Indian team. Under Surya's leadership, the team has settled well.

Shubman Gill: Future Indian ODI Captain

The BCCI is now reportedly looking to hand over the ODI captaincy to the star batter Shubman Gill, who has been named vice-captain for the upcoming ODI series against England. Gill's recent performance in domestic cricket and leadership experience in IPL makes him a strong candidate for future ODI captain.

The BCCI faces some challenges in picking the Test captain for the Indian team as Rohit's future in the Test format is uncertain. Jasprit Bumrah is considered one of the best options for this role, but his workload could be a concern for the BCCI to make him captain.

Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal: The Next Test Captains?

The star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal are emerging as strong candidates for the Test captaincy. Rishabh Pant was performing very well in red-ball cricket for India and he has experience in leadership roles in both T20Is and the IPL.

The star batter Jaiswal recently debuted in Test cricket but he impressed the management with his excellent batting skills and scoring runs consistently for the team in Tests. The selectors are also looking to elevate players based on their performance.

As per the report, a source mentioned "Bumrah’s chances of a long Test series or completing a full season will always be in doubt. The selectors may want a more stable option. Gill has been seen as a captaincy prospect but his returns in Test cricket have been average. Rishabh Pant could also be a strong candidate and maybe someone like Yashashvi Jaiswal can be groomed for the role."
