Yashasvi Jaiswal Set to Become India's Next Test Captain Amid Concerns Over Bumrah's Fitness and Gill's Form
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering the star Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for India’s Test captain role once the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma steps down from Test cricket. while the star batter Shubman Gill is seen as the potential leader for the ODI team.
Rohit Sharma is aging and he was inconsistent in Test cricket, the BCCI is looking for young players for leadership roles. Rohit's retirement from T20Is has allowed the star batter Suryakumar Yadav to step up as T20I captain for the Indian team. Under Surya's leadership, the team has settled well.
Shubman Gill: Future Indian ODI Captain
The BCCI is now reportedly looking to hand over the ODI captaincy to the star batter Shubman Gill, who has been named vice-captain for the upcoming ODI series against England. Gill's recent performance in domestic cricket and leadership experience in IPL makes him a strong candidate for future ODI captain.
The BCCI faces some challenges in picking the Test captain for the Indian team as Rohit's future in the Test format is uncertain. Jasprit Bumrah is considered one of the best options for this role, but his workload could be a concern for the BCCI to make him captain.
