WTC 2025 Points Table Updated After WI vs AUS 1st Test

WTC 2025 Points Table Updated After WI vs AUS 1st TestWest Indies couldn’t build any strong partnerships in their second innings and lost all 10 wickets in the evening session on day three, as Australia took control and won the match with two days left. Chasing 301 to win, West Indies had a decent start after losing captain Kraigg Brathwaite early, reaching 47/1 with John Campbell and Keacy Carty at the crease.

However, Hazlewood, who had faced criticism for his performance in the World Test Championship final, turned things around with a brilliant spell that changed the game. He tore through the West Indies top order, taking four quick wickets while giving away just nine runs. That collapse left West Indies struggling at 56/5, and from there, it was always going to be tough for the hosts. Despite that, Justin Greaves (38 not out) and Shamar Joseph (44) added some late fight and entertainment.

Josh Hazlewood finished things off by taking the last wicket of Jomel Warrican, ending with a great bowling figure of 5 for 43. Nathan Lyon also chipped in with two wickets in the final over, after play was extended by 30 minutes, helping Australia secure a strong win. Earlier in the day, Australia fought hard to reach 310 in their second innings after starting at 92/4. Travis Head and Beau Webster played key roles with scores of 61 and 63, while Alex Carey smashed a quick 65 to support the lower order. Shamar Joseph was the standout bowler for West Indies, taking 5 for 87.

West Indies coach Daren Sammy met with match referee Javagal Srinath after day two to discuss a few TV umpire decisions made by Adrian Holdstock that he felt were questionable. Sammy expressed his frustration on Thursday, saying he wasn’t pleased with some of the dismissals given through the technology. However, in West Indies’ second innings, there wasn’t much to argue about. The second Test between West Indies and Australia is set to be played from July 2 to 7 at the National Cricket Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada.
