WTC 2023–25: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill Among Top Run-Scorers for India
The World Test Championship (WTC) is now in its third edition. The WTC cycle started in 2019, held by the International Cricket Council (ICC). New Zealand won the first season in 2021 by beating India, and Australia won the second season in 2023. Earlier this year, South Africa won the third title by beating Australia.
When talking about India, the team reached the finals in both 2021 and 2023 but couldn’t win in the finals. One of the main reasons was the batting struggles. Since the start of the WTC, only one Indian batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has managed to average more than 50. He made his Test debut in 2023 and already stands sixth among India's top run- scorers in this championship.
At the top of the list is Shubman Gill, the captain of the Indian team, who replaced Rishabh Pant as India’s leading run-scorer. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who retired from Test cricket in May, are in third and fourth place. Ravindra Jadeja is fifth, and KL Rahul is seventh.
