After the tremendous success of the first two seasons, the much-awaited Women's Premier League began on February 14 with a match between the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Gujarat Giants. The first week of the third season has been very exciting, with nail-biting thrillers and record-breaking chases. In this article, we will discuss a summary of the first week of WPL 2025.
The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 started on 14th February and will span over a month, ending on 15th March with the finals. So far this season, the Gujarat Giants have played the most matches, three, while the Warriorz has played only a single match.
The tournament started with a high-scoring match, where Gujarat Titans, batting first, scored a massive total of 202 runs against the defending champions RCB. Still, RCB batted exceptionally, and with the help of Elysse Perry and Richa Ghosh's half-centuries, the team completed a historic run chase of 202 runs.

In the second match of the season between the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, Mumbai batted first and was all out in just 19.1 overs, scoring 164 runs. The target, which seemed easier for the Delhi Capitals, turned out to be very challenging in front of MI’s bowling, and the match got very exciting in the last few overs. Finally, the Delhi Capitals won the game on the last ball.

In the third match, the Gujarat Giants, after losing the first match, faced Warriorz. In a low-scoring match, UP Warriorz could only score 143 runs in 20 hours, and Gujarat Giants easily chased it in just 18 overs. The best performer in the match was the captain, Ashleigh Gardner, who scored 52 runs and took two wickets.

The fourth match was between the Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the finalists of the WPL 2024. It was expected that Delhi Capitals would be looking to avenge their defeat in the finals last year, but while waiting, the first DC crumbled and got all out for just 141 runs in 19.3 overs. Renuka Singh and Georgia Wareham bowled exceptionally well, taking 3-3 wickets each. RCB, while batting second, chased down the target in just 16 overs, led by an amazing knock from captain Smriti Mandhana, who scored 81 runs off 47 balls.

So far in this season, we have seen a mix of matches, on the one side, we had high-scoring Matches and record-breaking chases, while on the other side, we have also seen low-scoring matches like the third and fifth matches. After the completion of the quarter of the tournament, it suggests both the batters and bowlers are performing really well, and the remaining season could be very exciting.
