Women's Ashes 2025: England Announces Squads with Ryana MacDonald-Gay and Historic Day-Night Test

Women's Ashes 2025: England Announces Squads with Ryana MacDonald-Gay and Historic Day-Night Test

In early January 2025, England heads to Australia for the Women's Ashes series, the series begins with one-day internationals on January 11. In addition, they will change to three T20 International games starting on January 20, the major issue now is the day-night Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It's the first one in over 75 years, scheduled from January 30 to February 2.

England has announced its squads for the Ashes, and 20-year-old pacer Ryana MacDonald-Gay has earned her spot after a standout performance during the South Africa tour. MacDonald-Gay made her international debut in the white-ball series against Ireland and was recently featured in a test match against South Africa. Her performance impressed team captain Heather Knight and South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp.

The England cricket board said Ryana MacDonald-Gay, who got two players out in her debut Test match during the South Africa tour, has joined the Test team. Bess Heath, the wicketkeeper-batter, made it onto both the T20I and Test teams. Meanwhile, Freya Kemp, an all-rounder, and Linsey Smith, a left-arm spinner, were selected for the T20I team.

Kemp and Smith are the new faces in the T20I group alongside MacDonald-Gay in the Test group.

Jon Lewis, the head coach, discussed the team picks. Lewis mentioned We've chosen teams with both new players and experienced ones for this Ashes series. Ashes games are always of significant consequence, and we're excited and ready to face whatever comes our way by playing our style; many people are getting very eager for the upcoming series between England and Australia as they go head to head for the famous Ashes trophy.
