What Is the Test Twenty ‘Fourth Format’? AB de Villiers, Harbhajan & More Spill the Details

The first Test match was played on March 15, 1877. Over time, the formats changed, giving fans even more excitement. After Test cricket, One Day Internationals (ODIs) were introduced. Then the T20 format entered the game. Following T20, formats like The Hundred and T10 came into existence, and now the Test Twenty format has been introduced. So, what is this new format? Let’s find out.
Introduction of a New Format in Cricket
According to Gaurav Bahirwani, CEO of The Fourth Format and Executive Chairman of One One Six Network, the new format is called Test Twenty. In this new and exciting cricket format, each team gets to bat twice, just like in Test cricket. But unlike Test matches, this format is shorter and faster to keep the excitement going continuously and to make the matches more TV-friendly. It is a blend of Test and T20 rules.
Some rules are taken from Test cricket, some from T20, but with slight modifications. The result of the match can be a win, loss, tie, or draw, making it even more interesting. AB de Villiers, Clive Lloyd, Matthew Hayden, and Harbhajan Singh are part of the advisory board. However, this format has not yet been introduced in international cricket.
What AB de Villiers and Matthew Hayden Said
AB de Villiers talked about the new format, saying that the most exciting thing is the freedom and creativity it offers. Test Twenty allows players to express themselves. It’s cricket without fear; it teaches balance and how to stay strong through both innings.
Meanwhile, Matthew Hayden said, "The youth are the future, so I really got involved in this. The longer format tests character, skill, mental and physical ability. We are getting the best of both worlds, with two different innings of 80 overs each in one day."
