
Indian captain Rohit Sharma commented on Mohammad Shami's availability for the remaining test matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
He said they want to be 100 per cent sure about him, they don't want to bring him and get him injured, and would bring him only when he was fully fit to play.
In a recent press conference, a journalist asked Rohit Sharma if the team would ask Shami to come forward for the remainder of the test series, as Shami was playing domestic cricket.
Rohit answered the reporter's question that the doors are open for Shami to come in anytime. They are monitoring his fitness and want to be 100% sure of it.
Rohit mentioned that while playing for the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, he got swelling in his knee, which hampers his preparation—adding that they want to be very careful. They don't want to bring him up in the situation, and then he gets injured, or something like that happens. Rohit then said that it's been a long time since he last played cricket, and they want to be fair to him and not pressure him to do the job. He also shared that the professionals and the medical team are monitoring every detail, and based on their assessment, the team will take the final call; they don't want him to Ball for four overs and then stand for 20 overs, so they want to be very careful, but the door is very open to the bowler.

It's worth mentioning that Shami has been recovering from an ankle injury for the last nine months. He played his last international match in the ICC Cricket World Cup final in November 2023 against Australia. Shami appeared in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy the previous month but got slightly strained while bowling. After medical attention, he completed his over. He had some back strain and swelling in his knee.
The star Indian picture has already missed the first two matches of the Border Gavaskar trophy. It's expected that he will miss the third test, too, but if everything goes right, he might be available for the last two tests.
In the first two tests, India dominantly won the first test in Perth. While In the second test match, Australia made a comeback and shattered India's batting and bowling, with an outstanding 140 from Travis Head and exceptional performances from Mitchell Starch and Pat Cummins.
