Virat Kohli Loses No. 1 ODI Ranking as New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell Claims Top Spot in ICC Batting Rankings
Just a week ago, Virat Kohli had returned to the World No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings after five years. But the happiness did not last long as in the latest rankings New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has gone past him to take the top position.
Daryl Mitchell Overtakes Virat Kohli as No.1 in ICC ODI Batting Rankings After Stellar India Series Performances
Mitchell made a good series against India, as he amassed 352 runs in three matches. Kohli, on the other hand, managed to score 240 runs in three innings, which fell short to keep him at the number one spot. In that light, the two cricketers swapped places. Mitchell now leads the chart with 845 rating points, quite ahead of Kohli, to give himself a good gap.
Among the Indian batters, Rohit Sharma fell out of the top three and is now No. 4. Shubman Gill has maintained his position at No. 5. KL Rahul has gone up a position to reach No. 10 while Shreyas Iyer fell a place to No. 11.
Kuldeep Yadav is the only Indian bowler who finds a spot in the top 10 rankings. Kuldeep Yadav had a low-key match against the New Zealand cricket team, picking only three wickets, and has dropped three places to rank No.7. Rashid Khan holds the first position.
The next Indian bowler is Mohammed Siraj at No. 14, followed by Ravindra Jadeja at No. 25 and Mohammed Shami at No. 26. Harshit Rana made a massive jump of 27 spots to break into the top 50 at No. 50.
Jasprit Bumrah is not in the top 100, mostly because he has not played many ODIs lately. There will be no ODIs played by India for the next six months. The spotlight now shifts to the T20 World Cup, followed by the IPL 2026. The next series for the Indian ODI side will take place in July when England comes visiting.
