Tilak Varma Set to Join Team India on Feb 3, Mayank Yadav Gets CoE Green Signal

The Indian team has received good news ahead of the T20 World Cup, which begins on February 7. Young batter Tilak Varma is close to making a full recovery from his injury and is expected to get fitness clearance soon.

Tilak Varma likely to be fit ahead of T20 World Cup

According to a report by Times of India, Tilak will take part in a simulation match at the Centre of Excellence (CoE). He had suffered an abdominal injury and underwent surgery, after which he has been training at the CoE.

Tilak was earlier expected to play in the last two T20Is against New Zealand, but the team management decided to go with Shreyas Iyer instead. Now, as per the BCCI, Tilak is likely to join the Indian team on February 3, if he clears all fitness tests.

There is also positive news about fast bowler Mayank Yadav. The 23-year-old has recovered from a lower back stress fracture and is now fully fit after spending nearly a year in rehab. He is currently part of the India A squad and will play warm-up matches ahead of the T20 World Cup. Riyan Parag has also recovered from his right shoulder injury and is expected to get fitness clearance soon. He will take part in the simulation match as well.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Washington Sundar is still recovering from a side strain injury he suffered during the India vs New Zealand ODI series. He is likely to undergo a fitness test on February 4. The BCCI is not in a rush to name a replacement for him, and he could still join the squad if he recovers in time. India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against the USA on February 7.
