Team India’s Jersey Sponsor to Be Finalised in 15–20 Days: BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla
The BCCI has begun the process of finding a new jersey sponsor for the Indian cricket team. According to BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla, the bids will close on September 16 and the final sponsor is expected to be announced within the next 2–3 weeks.
Team India currently has no jersey sponsor in the Asia Cup after the BCCI’s Rs 358 crore-per-year deal with Dream11 ended due to the new Online Gaming Bill, which banned real-money gaming apps. To find a new sponsor, the BCCI has released a fresh tender that does not allow bids from companies linked to real-money gaming, betting, cryptocurrency or alcohol.
While speaking to the media in Singapore during the CREDAI NATCON event, Rajeev Shukla said that the new jersey sponsorship will cover all formats of the game and is likely to continue until 2028. If confirmed, this will be one of the longest jersey sponsorship deals in Indian cricket.
“The tender process has been released, and there are a lot of bidders. We will tell you after it’s finalised. I think it will be finalised in 15-20 days,” Shukla said.
GST on IPL Tickets Increased to 40%
Rajeev Shukla said that no company has been shortlisted yet for Team India’s new jersey sponsorship, as many bidders are still in the race. The final name will be revealed once the deal is confirmed. He also spoke about the recent GST hike on IPL tickets, which are now taxed at 40%, the same as casinos and race clubs. This means a Rs 500 ticket will now cost Rs 700, while a Rs 2,000 ticket will go up to Rs 2,800. However, GST on regular international and domestic matches will remain at 18%.
Rajeev Shukla said, “I am seeing that a lot of common people come to watch IPL and the GST hike will surely have an impact, but I am hopeful many will still come. As for criticism that BCCI enjoys tax exemptions, I want to clarify that BCCI pays income tax like any corporate company, it also pays GST and we don’t have any exemptions. We pay thousands of crores in taxes, state associations also pay taxes and we never take a single rupee grant from the government.”
With the tender process now open, many top brands are likely to bid for the jersey sponsorship rights. The final announcement is expected before September 16, so that Team India has a new sponsor in place ahead of a packed international schedule. The deal is set to run until 2028 marking the start of a long-term partnership between the sponsor and Indian cricket.
