Surrey Top South Group with Dominant Win Over Sussex in Vitality Blast Men 2025

Surrey Top South Group with Dominant Win Over Sussex in Vitality Blast Men 2025
Surrey secured a comprehensive 48-run victory over Sussex in the Vitality Blast Men South Group match at The Oval on June 18, 2025, propelling them to the top of the group alongside Somerset. Sussex, missing three key players from their squad that had only lost one of their first six games, failed to pose a serious challenge to the target of 211 and were eventually dismissed for 162 in the final over.

Surrey's innings was anchored by Dom Sibley's 45 runs and Will Jacks' 43, with Sam Curran contributing 38. The highlight was Ollie Sykes' aggressive 44 off just 18 balls, including three sixes in an over from James Coles, which propelled Surrey to a formidable of total 210 for 6. Despite the absence of the season's leading run-scorer Jason Roy, who was out for a second-ball duck, Surrey's batting lineup managed to put up a strong performance.

Sussex's chase started disastrously as they lost three wickets in the first three overs. Debutant George Thomas was bowled by Reece Topley, Dan Hughes dragged a delivery onto his stumps, and James Coles was caught by a diving Ollie Sykes. Tom Clark and captain John Simpson offered some resistance with a 62-run partnership, but Mitchell Santner's 3 for 26 and Topley's 3 for 34 ensured that Sussex never got close to the target. Danny Lamb's career-best 49 offered some consolation for Sussex, but it was not enough to prevent a heavy defeat.

Players:
Surrey: Dom Sibley (45), Will Jacks (43), Sam Curran (38), Ollie Sykes (44*), Mitchell Santner (3-26), Reece Topley (3-34)
Sussex: Danny Lamb (49), Tom Clark (45 John), Simpson (21), George Thomas (1), Dan Hughes (7)
