Shubman Gill Injury Update: Gill Travels With Team; Nitish Kumar Reddy Returns Ahead of Guwahati Test

Shubman Gill will travel with the team to Guwahati, but he will only play the second Test if he is fully fit. The match starts on November 22, and India is already 0-1 behind in the series. Gill was discharged from Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata on Sunday night after being treated for neck spasms.
Since then, he has been staying with the team at ITC Sonar. According to sources, the India captain, who could face only three balls in the last match because of his neck stiffness, is expected to fly with the team on Wednesday (November 19).
The BCCI and local doctors are keeping a close watch on his condition. The team management and selectors are talking regularly. Everyone wants Gill to play the Test, but they don’t want to force him back too soon.
"That was the original plan and there is no change as of now - Gill will travel. Barring a last-minute change, he should be in Guwahati." There were suggestions that he fly to Mumbai for an expert opinion, but that plan was dropped," an insider told Cricbuzz.
Gill’s Fitness in Focus as India Call Back Nitish for Second Test
A final decision on whether he will play will be taken a day before the match. India lost the first Test at Eden Garden by 30 runs, having failed to chase 124 in the second innings. Gill was not available to bat in the crucial second innings, as he was recovering in hospital. Meanwhile, the national selectors have summoned right-handed all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy to Kolkata.
He checked into the team hotel late Monday night and is scheduled to fly with the squad to Guwahati on Wednesday morning. Nitish was in Rajkot with the India A team for their three-match one-day series against South Africa A. On Monday evening, he was suddenly told to go to Kolkata, so he left right away. He was earlier part of the Test squad, but was released before the Test began and asked to play the white-ball matches in Rajkot instead. He played the first two games on November 13 and 16, both of which India won.
But before the third match on November 19, he was called back to join the main group again. Whether the SOS to Nitish is an indication that he will play the second Test is still conjecture, but there has been considerable debate over the Indian team's batting line-up, which comprised as many as six left-handers in the Eden Test. Nitish being a right-hander could work in his favour, though there has also been criticism of the team management for favouring all-rounders over specialists.
