Shubman Gill Eager to Play Second Test Against South Africa Despite Neck Injury: Reports
Shubman Gill is eager to play in the second Test against South Africa. Right now, he is recovering from a neck injury he got on November 15 at Eden Gardens. After going to the hospital, he was discharged once the Kolkata Test ended. Gill has been with the team for the past few days and has traveled to Guwahati. The BCCI said he is being closely monitored, and no decision has been made yet about whether he will play in the match.
"Team India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of day's play." the BCCI said in a statement.
"He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team and a decision on his participation in the 2nd Test will be taken accordingly." the statement added.
Shubman Gill Eager to Play Despite Neck Injury
While the BCCI may want to rest Gill to be safe, he is keen to play. According to PTI, he will try to train for the first time since his neck injury on November 20 and 21 at Barsapara Stadium. Since becoming captain in May, Gill feels responsible for the team’s results. His injury played a part in India’s loss in Kolkata, and he likely wants to play in Guwahati to stop India from losing at home again within a year.
Bhogle, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), shared the players he would like to see replace Gill. At the top of his list was Karun Nair, who has been scoring heavily in domestic cricket for India.
Bhogle wrote on X, “In case Gill is unavailable, as seems increasingly likely, I think India need a right hander in the middle order. I realise the next two are Padikkal and Sai Sudharsan but 7 left handers in the top 9 would be way too many. A short list would be Gaikwad, Sarfaraz & Patidar (if fit). But my inclination, for a one-off test effectively, would be to pick a player in top form, someone like Karun Nair. India don't play again till July/Aug so this would be horses for courses.”
