Shreyas Iyer Likely to Part Ways with KKR After Salary Demands
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer is poised to be released during the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, following unsuccessful discussions about his contract with the franchise. Iyer, who previously led the Delhi Capitals to the finals and won the IPL title with KKR, has seen his performance and international standing decline over the past year.
Reports from Cricbuzz indicate that Iyer requested a significantly high salary to remain with KKR, which the franchise found untenable. As a result, the middle-order batsman will enter the auction pool.
Despite Iyer's undeniable talent, recent injuries and his exclusion from the Indian national team have diminished his market value. Initially signed for INR 12.25 crore in 2022, Iyer's performance has fluctuated, with 401 runs in his first season and only 351 runs in the following season, punctuated by a complete absence in 2023 due to injury. A player of his caliber is generally expected to deliver more consistently.
