Security Tightened in Kolkata After Delhi Blast Ahead of India vs South Africa Test

[ Poll: XZJ8djyg ]

The Kolkata Police have tightened security ahead of the first Test between India and South Africa at Eden Gardens on 14 November. This comes after a major blast near the Red Fort in Delhi. Both teams are already in Kolkata and will stay under strict security for their entire visit. The explosion in Delhi on Monday evening claimed eight lives and left 24 others injured.

Authorities confirmed that of the eight bodies recovered from the blast site, only two, men, have been identified so far, while six remain unidentified. While the cause of the blast is still under investigation, the incident occurred on the same day that police personnel from Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana dismantled an interstate terror module, seizing large quantities of bomb-making materials and an assault rifle.

Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said the explosion took place at around 6.52 pm when a slow-moving vehicle stopped at a traffic signal near the Red Fort. Officials confirmed that the explosive chemicals recovered were intended to "spread terror across Delhi."

"An explosion happened in that vehicle, and due to the explosion, nearby vehicles were also damaged," Golcha stated.

Kolkata Police have put together a strong security plan for the Indian and South African teams. This includes their travel to and from the stadium, practice sessions, and match days.

Extra NAKA checks and tighter surveillance have been started around Eden Gardens, and police officers are now posted at all the main entry and exit points. Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma is expected to visit Eden Gardens on Tuesday to review the arrangements in person.
