Sanju Samson Injury Update: RR Captain Likely to Miss LSG Clash, Riyan Parag Expected to Lead
Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been hit with a tough blow right before their important IPL 2025 game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) set for April 19. According to Sportstar, Sanju Samson is likely to miss the match due to injury concerns.
After picking up an injury in their recent clash against Delhi Capitals (DC), Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson went for medical scans on Friday, April 18. While the scans have been completed, the final decision on his availability will be made on April 19. Sources close to the team shared that Samson seemed to be in some discomfort on April 17. He’s expected to undergo another scan now, and his availability for the rest of the IPL season will depend on those results leaving both the team and fans hoping for good news.
Riyan Parag Set to Captain Again as RR Await Crucial Injury Update on Samson
If Sanju Samson isn’t available, Riyan Parag is expected to step in as captain again, just like he did during the first three matches of the season. Samson picked up a rib injury while batting during Rajasthan Royals’ innings against Delhi Capitals in their IPL 2025 clash. The incident occurred in the sixth over, when he appeared to be in visible discomfort and had to walk off the field, retiring hurt at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
After walking off the field, Sanju Samson didn’t return to bat, which naturally sparked concerns about how serious the injury might be. However, after the match, he shared an update saying he was feeling okay, but wasn’t in the right condition to get back out there and continue batting.
Even though Samson initially sounded optimistic, the fact that he’s now undergone scans hints that the injury could be more serious than first thought. The Rajasthan Royals camp will be keeping their fingers crossed for positive news. Head coach Rahul Dravid also weighed in, saying the scans are done and they’re waiting on the reports after which a final decision on Samson will be made.
As for RR’s overall campaign, things haven’t gone as planned so far. With just two wins from seven matches, they currently find themselves struggling at the eighth spot on the IPL 2025 points table.
