Rohit Sharma Injury Update: Team India’s Assistant Coach Breaks Silence
India cricket team assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate provided a Rohit Sharma Injury Update, saying that the captain was fine and managing his injury very well. The Hitman suffered a hamstring injury during the Champions Trophy match against Pakistan on February 23. After skipping practice on Wednesday, Rohit returned to the nets on Friday as India prepared for their final group-stage match against New Zealand.
Talking to reporters in Dubai before the IND vs NZ match, Doeschate said that Rohit’s hamstring injury was one he had before. He mentioned that the Indian captain was handling his injury very well and was in control of it. The assistant coach also said that Rohit was back to batting and did some fielding on Friday.
"He's all right. You can see he's batting a little bit further than earlier. It's an injury he's had before, so he knows how to manage it really well," Ten Doeschate said.
Shubman Gill Likely to Lead India if Rohit Sharma Sits Out
Meanwhile, KL Rahul further added that that there are no significant injury concerns within the team with Rohit and senior pacer Mohammed Shami being doubtful for the match against New Zealand.
"Fitness-wise, I think there's no. I don't know too much, but from whatever I know, I think everything seems pretty okay. There's no real concerns about anyone missing games as far as I know. We'll probably know more in today's training," Rahul said at the press conference.
"Everyone's been in the gym, everyone's been at training the last time as well. So, yeah, little some concerns, but I don't think it's too much," Rahul added.
During practice, Rohit had a good session and even smashed a huge six of nearly 95 meters. On Friday, reports suggested that Rohit Sharma might skip the match against New Zealand as a precaution since India has already reached the semifinals. The report also mentioned that if that happens, Shubman Gill will make his debut as the ODI captain.
