Riyan Parag Undergoes Successful Shoulder Surgery, Out of India A Tri-Series

Riyan Parag has successfully undergone surgery. The Rajasthan Royals captain suffered a hamstring injury towards the end of IPL 2026 but continued to play after RR qualified for the playoffs. Due to the injury, he has been ruled out of India A's upcoming tri-series against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named as his replacement in the squad. However, it turns out that Parag‘s surgery isn’t related to his hamstring injury. In fact, he has undergone right-shoulder surgery.

Riyan Parag Undergoes Successful Shoulder Surgery, Faces Rehab After Two-Year Struggle

The batting all-rounder revealed that his right shoulder had been causing him issues for the last 2 years. However, the 24-year-old kept delaying the surgery. That is until now.

“Well, the shoulder finally won. For everyone who’s been asking, the surgery is done and went well. The past two years have tested me in ways I never expected. There were good days, frustrating days, and days when simply getting through a game was a challenge. But I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Now comes a different challenge – recovery, rehab and patience. I’ll be back doing what I love soon. See you on the other side,” Parag wrote.

A week ago, Parag was seen at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai with his mother. He met Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, one of India's top orthopaedic and sports medicine specialists.

Dr. Pardiwala had also helped Rishabh Pant recover and return to international cricket after his serious car accident. It’s unclear how long Parag will need to recover from his shoulder surgery.

The batting all-rounder didn’t provide any update on that front. However, one can assume it might be a lengthy process. Perhaps the start of the domestic season, the Duleep Trophy in late August, might be what he’s aiming for as a return date.
