RCB SWOT Analysis for IPL 2025: Strengths, Weaknesses, and More

The last IPL season was a mixed one for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). After beating Chennai Super Kings in their final league match, they made it to the playoffs. But their campaign ended in the Eliminator where they lost to Rajasthan Royals. Again, their dream of winning the IPL trophy remained unfulfilled.
The IPL 2025 Mega Auction happened on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. RCB entered the auction with a purse of ₹83 crore but disappointed fans as they didn't use the Right to Match (RTM) cards for key players like Mohammed Siraj, Glenn Maxwell, Will Jacks, and Faf du Plessis. They didn't put much effort into signing big names like Yuzvendra Chahal and KL Rahul.
Before the auction, RCB had Virat Kohli, Yash Dayal, and Rajat Patidar. In the auction, they bought players like Phil Salt, Josh Hazlewood, Tim David, Jitesh Sharma, Rasikh Dar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Krunal Pandya for their team, which was a great move.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) SWOT Analysis for 2025
Strengths:
RCB’s batting unit looks strong for IPL 2025. The team has players like Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, Devdutt Padikkal, Liam Livingstone, Tim David, Jacob Bethel, Jitesh Sharma, and Rajat Patidar. Their middle order seems to be more solid than the previous season. Jitesh Sharma and Tim David are expected to play really crucial roles as finishers. However, we still would rate RCB's batting unit 8/10.
The bowling department seems quite solid for RCB going into the new season. They have got the fast bowlers in the form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar ₹ 10.75 Cr and Josh Hazlewood ₹ 12.50 Cr from the auction. These bowlers can grab wickets in the powerplay. They have more bowling assets in Yash Dayal, Rasikh Dar, Nuwan Thushara, Suyash Sharma, Lungi Ngidi, and Krunal Pandya in the bag. RCB's bowling department deserves 8/10.
Weakness:
The Royal Challengers have power hitters like Phil Salt, Tim David, and Livingstone, but they will face challenges in playing outside home, especially on spin-friendly pitches. It is so because players like Tim David and Devdutt Padikkal are struggling with the spin bowling. Further, RCB has no alternatives for Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli. If any of them gets injured or goes out of form, the team will face some problems.
Opportunities:
Royal Challengers Bangalore have completely revamped the team from last season. The bowling unit is all new, and the middle order and finisher role has explosive batsmen now. If the players that the franchise has trusted in the auction perform well, then the team has a good chance of winning the trophy.
Threats:
Who will captain Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming IPL season? This is a big question. Virat Kohli stepped down from captaincy after the 2021 season. For the last three seasons, Faf du Plessis had been their captain, but he's no longer with RCB. No decision has yet been taken about the new captain. If Virat Kohli returns as captain then it will be beneficial for the team. However, if the team gets a new captain with less experience, then it might prove to be a challenge for the franchise.
