Ravi Ashwin Reveals the Real Reason Behind His Sudden Retirement Decision

Ravi Ashwin Reveals the Real Reason Behind His Sudden Retirement Decision

The legendary spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, opened up about why he chose to retire suddenly. Ashwin noted how much he loves the game, not worrying a lot about being praised. Ashwin said that a major reason for his retirement was his urge to explore different activities and think of new ideas. Ashwin believed it was the right moment to look for different chances.

After the India and Australia game got rained out on the fifth day of the third test, Ashwin hugged Virat Kohli extremely tight, making everyone speculate if he was about to quit cricket; then, he surprised everyone a lot by actually announcing his retirement. And he did this at a press conference while standing next to Captain Rohit Sharma. It shocked all the cricket fans out there.

Ashwin doesn't care much about being famous or recognized. He believes that what he has today may not be with him tomorrow, and he is okay with it. He's comfortable knowing his decisions might make others wonder if he's doing the right thing, without worrying about impressing anyone or being the center of attention. His lack of attachment to material things has actually helped him improve through the months and years. Ashwin isn't one to stress about the future or feel insecure.

The Thought Process Behind His Retirement

If you converse with Ashwin regarding cricket, he'll verbalize how much he adores the game instead of the material he gets from it. He pointed out that he's primarily focused on the game itself and doesn't run after rewards. Ashwin even said he doesn't like looking for fame or needing others to like him. In fact, he likes staying lowkey and avoids getting muddled in large groups or enjoying the focus a large number of people receive in India.

"My aim is to contribute without making a big fuss. I understand some people appreciate the extra perks but that's their path, not mine. To me, what matters most is the game itself."

Ashwin's decision to retire wasn't made in haste. He said it came after much thought. He often reflected on his future in cricket and believed that when his creativity and ability to innovate no longer had a clear direction, it would be time to move on. "I've thought about it many times. I've always said that the day I feel my creative side has no future or purpose, I'll step away. Recently, I felt my creativity didn't have much left to offer. I began to wonder where else I could experiment and explore. I realized that the opportunity wasn't there anymore. It's a constant battle inside me, trying to figure out how to pursue these other possibilities. But I believe there are plenty of places in world cricket where innovation can thrive, so I decided this might not be the right place for me I'll look for another lab."
