Rajat Patidar's Captaincy Leads Madhya Pradesh to Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Final 2024

Rajat Patidar the captain of Madhya Pradesh (MP), obtained 347 runsleading up to the final against Mumbai on December 15, including four half-centuries. His amazing hitting at a strike rate of 182.63 has greatly helped the team. It's the first time since the 2010-11 season that MP has made it to the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), and a lot of that is attributed to what Patidar has been doing this year.

The IPL Star Who Shines Under Pressure

This year in the IPL, Patidar was really excellent by obtaining 395 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and being their third-best batter. It's his skill at hitting the ball far over the boundary that really speeds up his scoring. In just 13 innings in the IPL, he hit 33 sixes very far, and he keeps going, with 21 sixes in eight innings at SMAT.

After scoring 66 not out off 29 balls and helping MP win over Delhi in the semi-final on Friday, Patidar was primarily focused on remaining connected with his strong points. He mentioned that since last year, he's really been doing a great job and he's aiming to keep up that flow he got into during the IPL.

Patidar was really in a tough spot when he started batting because the team was at 46 for 3 and they needed 147 to win against Delhi but he didn't let that get to him and started hitting the ball well right away. He went, currently facing Himanshu Chauhan, and beat him by hitting a four through the point area on his fifth ball; and then secured an amazing six over the deep square leg, adding up to 14 runs in just that over.

In the quarter-final against Saurashtra,it was animportant time because the team needed to chase down 174. Patidar stepped up when it mattered, slamming 28 off 18 balls; They had to get runs at a run-rate of 10.14 runs with only seven overs left. Finally, his effort helped them win the game.

Patidar’s IPL Retention: A Well-Deserved Reward

Patidar is happy because RCB decided to retain him for 11 crores in the IPL 2025, mainly because he was amazing in the SMAT matches, this choice made him feel much better, and now he hopes to be the leader of RCB someday if they let him.

Rajat Patidar said, "Finding out how to be captain was interesting, more than usual, for me during my time with MP." Getting tips from my coach, Chandrakant Pandit, and "working on tactics was amazing. I've really learned a lot from seeing how players think ahead and plan their moves. I've learned a lot."

In the final at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, MP is set to battle against Mumbai, a team they defeated in the last Ranji Trophy final by clinching a win with six wickets in hand, that important game was held at the same location. Patidar, who hit an impressive 122 in that match, thinks their win from two years ago is going to excite his team now.
